Saturday, November 2, 2013 // 10:00am - 2:00pm

Ginia’s machine quilting classes focus on building a strong foundation of basic skills and encouraging the student to develop their own style.

This class is for those who have grasped the basics and want to expand their free motion skill set.  You will learn some tips for giving your quilts a more polished look.   We will cover some basic filler motifs, such as grids, curls and pebbles. Then you will develop your own fillers and motifs.

Students must have already done some free motion quilting or taken the “Free-Motion Quilting: Getting Started (Free Motion 101)” class. Among other things, you will need a sewing machine with a darning/ free motion foot, a pair of scissors and a ruler, as well as thread, needles, fabric and batting to practice on. Some of these supplies are available to purchase at Pink Castle Fabrics

Made-To-Measure Skirt Workshop with Rae Hoekstra of Made by Rae

Saturday, November 9, 2013 // 10:00am - 1:00pm

This fun and flirty gathered skirt has a sophisticated flat-fronted waistband, with an elastic casing in the back for ease of fit. Also, no zippers to fight with! It has pockets, and who doesn't love/need pockets? If there is time, Rae will also teach us how to add the contrast band, a skill that will surely lend itself to many future dressmaking projects. The Made-to-Measure skirt is perfect over tights and boots in the fall and winter!

In Tsuru with contrast bandIn Oliver + S without contrast band.

Prerequisites: Students must be able to sew a straight or curved seam, keep a seam allowance, and adjust tension and stitch length on your sewing machine.

In the class you will be making a pattern using your own measurements on Pellon 830 pattern tracing material a pattern that is not only just your size but yours to keep, so that you may make many adorable skirts on your own afterwards.

Once you are registered, you will need to bring your sewing machine, 1 inch elastic, and 2-2.5 yards of light to medium weight fabric (some types of light weight fabrics we carry are voile and oxford; quilting cotton is a medium weight fabric), and coordinating thread to the class. If you want a contrast band, 1/2-1 yard of fabric will do. The elastic and tracing material will be available for purchase at the store.
