Camp Stitchalot!

Pink Castle has many great deals going on for the holiday weekend!

In our previous blog posts we have highlighted a few items - the aurifloss, the Accuquilt Go kits and dies, our many monthly fabric clubs, and the fabric bundle sale.
AND (now until December 2nd) earn a $5 gift certificate for every $50 you spend in one order! You will get your gift certificate(s) in your order! See the Black Friday flyer for details.

Camp Stitchalot is coming around again! Camp Stitchalot! It's the best!

Camp Stitchalot is a sewing retreat hosted by Pink Castle Fabrics. Better than camp, because you'll have real beds, and get to sew all day (and night, too, if you desire!)

Camp Stitchalot is a sewing retreat in lovely Pleasant Lake, Michigan, which runs Friday through Sunday, with an optional Open Sew all day Thursday. You will have "camp counselors" who will be teaching a variety of classes throughout the weekend. Meals are included. Sewing machine rentals are available on a first come-first serve basis.

Just imagine... 3 days of sewing without the kids and housework and the pressures of daily life. What could be a better sewing gift than time off to enjoy it? You will be amazed at what you will accomplish and the friends you will make there!

Spots are still available at the following camps:

Winter 2013December 6-8Handmade Gifts    Jeni Baker, Anna Graham, Debbie Grifka
Spring 2014March 20-23Handmade BagsSara Lawson, Kirstin Link
Fall 2014September 19-21Bari J., Vanessa Christenson
Winter 2014November 14-16Carolyn Friedlander, Sherri Lynn Wood

And at each camp, you will also have additional councilors, modern quilter Rossie Hutchinson and Pink Castle Fabric's owner Brenda Ratliff.

Although classes are taught throughout the weekend, you don't need to attend them. Bring out your works in progress and finish them up! With three large rooms for sewing, there is plenty of space to work, even room to lay out and baste quilts, and plenty of room to just hang out and talk. It is an amazing experience!

Come join the fun!

Pink Castle's Monthly Fabric Clubs

Pink Castle has many great deals going on for the holiday weekend!

In our previous blog posts we have highlighted a few items - the aurifloss, the Accuquilt Go kits and dies, and the fabric bundle sale.
AND (now until December 2nd) earn $5 for every $50 you spend in one order! You will get your gift certificate(s) in your order! See the Black Friday flyer for details.

But now it's the time to talk about Fabric Clubs!

Whether you are looking for more stash builders, solids, Japanese prints or a little "quiltspiration", we've got you covered.

Club membership can be purchased for any number of months, and is a great gift for any quilter, from those looking to grow their stashes, to beginners just starting out.

Pink Castle Fabrics has four exciting monthly fabric clubs to join:

With your monthly subscription to the Stash Stack Club, you will receive a different color Stash Stack each month. Each Stash Stack's monthly color will arrive with a variety of tones (from lights to darks) in 6 or 12 modern stash builder prints.  A stash builder is a fabric that has only one color or one color and white. All fabrics sent each month will be designer 100% quilting weight cotton.

Here is an example of this month's selections (November was orange):

Here are all the fabrics from last year laid out together:

Doesn't it look amazing! Sign up today to start on your own collection!

A half Stack will get your 6 prints each month, a full Stack will get you all 12! The Stash Stacks are available as Fat Quarters (18" x 22"), Half Yards (18" x 44"), and Yards (36" x  44").

You could also join our No Prints Allowed Club, a monthly club for solids!

Your monthly subscription to the No Prints Allowed Club will get you 12 different designer solids from all the brands we carry! There are hundreds of amazing colors that would just love to sneak into your stash. Each month, you'll receive a full range of 12 solids in each color, and will circle around the entire color wheel in 12 months! We will label all of these colors with a sticker, so if you don't use it right away (or if you love it so much you need to order more) you will know which fabric is which. All you need to do is decide if you want to stash Fat Quarters (18" x 22") or Half Yards (18" x 44")!

Here is an example from March:

Aren't they fantastic! If you sign up now, you will receive December's solids next month!

And now for something completely different: The Color Inspirations Club!

We are very excited to introduce our newest monthly fabric club, Color Inspirations! Brenda is teaming up with RJR Fabrics to bring you a bundle of 10 super soft Cotton Supreme Solids each month!  Every month Brenda will choose a coordinating bundle of ten solid fabrics based around an inspirational photo.  None of the colors in each month will overlap during the year so by the end of the 12 month cycle you will have 120 different solids!  You can chose to make something from the bundle you get, or break it up and add fabrics from your stash!  Choose fat quarter (18" x 22") or half yard (18" x 44") cuts for your bundle!

Here is an example bundle:

Doesn't it just look delicious! Sign up here to get started! The first bundle does not ship until January, but by purchasing now, you reserve your spot in the club.

Last, and certainly the most adorable, the Kawaii Fabric Club!

Are you crazy for Japanese fabrics? Do you scour the internet, constantly searching for cute prints to add to your stash? Don't you wish the cute, "Kawaii" prints would find you each month?

Well, now they can!

Each month, 8 different super cute Japanese prints will be mailed to each of our club members. The materials of the prints may vary (like linen blend, cotton sheeting (quilting cotton) or oxford ), but they will all be Japanese "Kawaii" prints, of course!

Because the first month of Kawaii Fabric Club won't be shipping until January, we don't yet have an example photo to share with you. But Google can show you some examples here. Prepare yourself for cuteness!

The Kawaii Fabric Club is available as a Fat Eighth (9" x 22") or as a Fat Quarter (18" x 22").

We also offer Gift Certificates where you can purchase a month (or many months) of club membership for someone else.

All this talk of Bundles is making me Bundle Hungry! Remember you can take 20% off all in stock bundles and precuts with coupon HOLIDAY20 until December 2nd!

Aurifloss 10 Packs in the Black Friday Special

Black Friday is quickly approaching.

Are you ready for the amazing specials Pink Castle Fabrics has?

This is good from Black Friday (November 29-December 2nd)

One of the products I would like to take a minute to talk about is the Aurifloss.
What is Aurifloss?
It is the new 6 strand, long staple cotton embroidery floss made by Aurifil.
If you are a fan of their thread you are going to love their floss!
We have made up sets of 10 spools.
Each spool has 18 yards (16 meters) of 6 stranded floss.
It stitches like a dream.
There are 252 colors in the floss line so far.
Aurifil even has a conversion chart so if you use DMC you can get a good match using this new floss.
Here are a few of the sets we have made up for you.
There are more sets available on our website.

This one is called Caribbean Dreams

This one is called Color Trends and matches many of the popular fabrics in our shop!
Perfect to go with Dowry or some of the new True Colors.

This set is called Vintage Linens.
I really love the soft colors in this set.
It reminds me of some of the Bonnie and Camille fabrics like Scrumptious or
their new line April Showers.

Named Rainbow Bright this beautiful set has some great basic colors in it.

Another set called Rock Collection would be great paired with Botanics!

The great thing is that the sets are only $44!

Modern Snowflake Tree Skirt Class

Modern Snowflake Tree Skirt class with Debbie Grifka

 Thursday, December 12th, 5:30pm-8:30pm

Add a bold snowflake to your holiday decor this year!

Come and learn how to machine applique as you make this beautiful, modern tree skirt with pattern designer and applique expert Debbie Grifka of Esch House Quilts.

This pattern was a big hit at Quilt Market and is sure to bring an extra bit of joy to the bottom of your tree!

The skirt is 48" diameter with a bound opening and optional ties and features non-fusible machine applique. With only slight adjustment, this could be a round quilt instead of a tree skirt. Debbie's tree skirt is make with Robert Kaufman's Kona solids in White and Medium Gray, but it would also look amazing in brighter colors, or even prints (perhaps those great snowflakes or the mistletoe from In from the Cold?). You can read Debbie's blog post about the pattern here.

Students should be able to sew a straight stitch on their sewing machines. Be sure to check the supply list to know what you need to bring!

Price per student is just $49, and the pattern is included in the price of the class.

One of the great things about Pink Castle is how often we get the chance to learn how to make projects with the actual, fantastic designers! This is another great opportunity to take a class with a an expert we are lucky to have nearby!

If you are not so nearby, this pattern is available for purchase through Debbie's Etsy and Craftsy shops. Although Pink Castle does not carry this pattern yet, we have many other fine patterns from Debbie in the shop, including an adorable bias applique Christmas tree wall hanging.

But if you are here, you need to sign up for this class! This tree skirt is so good! And knowing how to do applique opens up a new realm of possibilities for your future sewing projects.

book now

Known for her cool, minimalist style, Debbie Grifka is a pattern designer who regular contributor to quilt magazines and books. She is on the board of the Ann Arbor Modern Quilt Guild. She also travels around the country teaching classes on hand, machine, and bias applique methods, and gives talks about the Modern Quilting movement. She is also one of the featured counselors for Pink Castle Fabric's own sewing retreat Camp Stitchalot Winter 2013, (which is coming up pretty soon!) where she will be teaching us how to make charming hot pads and potholders.

Lizzy House Fabric Past... and Present! - Part One

As we await the imminent arrival of Catnap, we are taking a moment to feature items made with other lines of Lizzy House fabric! This post is going to highlight a few quilts, pillows, and other home goods. I am saving the apparel for a second post.

First, if you haven't taken a moment to look at Catnap, please do! (Although Catnap is not yet available, if you sign up for an email notification on the left side of the screen when viewing any print, you will be emailed the moment it is in stock at Pink Castle Fabrics.)

Lizzy House is a fabric designer known for her whimsical drawings and her clever color stories. Catnap features mice and cats, yes, but there is also a re-imagining of her classic butterfly print from her Hello Pilgrim line, as well as coordinating stash builders like Pearl Bracelets and Jewels.

Now let's look at a few quilts and things:

Laurie of Dresden Lane made this spectacular rainbow quilt with prints from Lizzy House's Red Letter Day, Castle Peeps, 1001 Peeps, and Hello Pilgrim collections. There is also at least one print from Lizzy Dish and one from Outfoxed.

Brooke of Pitter Putter Stitch used Freshly Pieced's Supernova pattern to make this 1001 Peeps top as a bee project. I love those towers as a border!

And speaking of Freshly Pieced, Lee made her luscious Bloom Bloom Pow quilt with Pearl Bracelets. The construction of this quilt is as clever as the results are gorgeous.

Shelley of Elsie's Girl made these adorable placemats using a pattern by Elizabeth Hartman with my favorite Lizzy House line, Lizzy Dish.

EliseH32 made this pillow using a pattern from the book Pillow Pop, featuring Castle Peeps. I think the clean design really shows off those adorable prints!

And Tina of BostonSewer made this amazing hexagon Pearl Bracelets quilt, using all the Pearl Bracelets ever made! (Although there are more coming!) I love how she organized the colors!

And now, what shall we make with Catnap? I know I have some plans for it! Whatever you make, be sure to share it with us in our Made With Pink Castle Fabrics Flickr group!

Stash Builder Bonanza!

Right now is a very exciting time at Pink Castle, because there are a lot of new Stash Builders in the store!

What are Stash Builders, you ask?

Stash Builders are fabrics that have one color and then white, or a tone on tone print. They are fun and functional and allow you to spread out a small amount of a focus fabric over a large area of a quilt. Brenda calls them Stash Builders, because they will work with a wide variety of fabrics, and be useful in many projects. That's the founding idea behind our monthly Stash Stack Club.

Let's view some current in stock examples:
Dots on Dots from Dots Right from Marcus Fabrics
These are really amazing! They look like sequins! And the colors are just super. We have 10 colors to choose from and a fat quarter bundle!

Savvy Dots from Savvy Swirls from Marcus Fabrics
Aren't these fantastic? There are six colors to chose from, and also fat quarter and half yard bundles.

Other not your usual dots include Hello Tokyo's Sugio Tiles, Scrumptious Dot by Bonnie and Camille for Moda, Spot On Mixed Dots from Robert Kaufman, Dear Stella's Confetti Dots, and Pearl Bracelets by Lizzy House and Bike Path by Alison Glass, both for Andover.

But blenders don't have to be just dots, they can be more complex prints, like these darling posies:

Mini Posies from Pocketful of Posies for Windham
Other complex blenders include the City Map print from Barcelona by Zen Chic for Moda, Rain from Timeless Treasures, Happy Go Lucky Skip by Bonnie and Camille, and the super swirly Just Color blenders from Studio E.

Another type of blender are chevrons, like these zigzags from Moda's Half Moon Modern:

We have bundles and yardage in two sizes of chevron, and the full rainbow of colors!

Other unusual stripes include Party Streamer from Alison Glass for Andover, Happy Go Lucky Jump by Bonnie and Camille for Moda, and Running Stitch by Patty Young for Michael Miller Fabrics.

Or checks and stripes, like these fun prints:

Chalk Talk by Blank
Other great checked fabrics in stock include the sketch prints from Timeless Treasures, Retro Crosshatch from Windham, and Carolyn Friedlander's Architexture's Crosshatch.

Another fun super skinny stripe is the Road from Road 15 by Sweetwater for Moda, and Scrumptious by Bonnie and Camille has a skinny stripe on the bias.

Text prints can also work as blenders! Check out these excellent prints from Minimalista from Art Gallery Fabrics:

Here are more text prints! Alison Glass has a series of text prints on white backgrounds in her Sunprint collection.

Of course, it's hard to go wrong with a classic dot! I love Robert Kaufman's Spot On small dots, just restocked last week - with new colors like Coral and Kale and new metallic dots.

Here are the bolts of metallic dots gathered together!
Other dots in the store include Kiss Dots from Michael Miller come in a fun range of colors. And the Ta Dot is a bright somewhat larger dot with a nice range of available colors.

Don't forget everything in stock* is 20% off with the code MARKET20 to make way for new fabrics coming in soon! So, it's a great time to stock up on some blenders and stash builders!

Botanics Fabric by Carolyn Friedlander - Fat Quarter Bundle Giveaway!

Hello everyone!

I'm back from another whirlwind Quilt Market!  It was a lot of fun, as usual.  Seeing all my quilty friends and all the beautiful fabrics and projects is a little bit surreal.  But, now I'm back and it's back to business!  Instead of doing one big Quilt Market roundup this time I'm going to tell you more about the lines of fabric closer to when they are ready to ship.

This month, one of my favorite lines from market is going to ship!  Botanics from Carolyn Friedlander for Robert Kaufman fabrics!  Botanics is Carolyn's follow up to the popular Architextures line.

Botanics Fabrics at Pink Castle Fabrics

It has the same line-drawn feel as her last fabric line and again, really amazing color choices.  Carolyn really is a talented artist.  This line has a little bit of gold metallic ink on the Succulent prints to add an extra layer of texture and interest without going overboard.  AND Carolyn has made SIX 108" wide backing fabrics to go along with the line!  These are REALLY awesome!  They are all the crosshatch print that you see in the bottom left of the photo above which means they are very versatile and can be used with a lot of other projects and not just with her line of fabric!

Carolyn is just as awesome as her fabrics!  I'm really excited that she has agreed to come and teach at Camp Stitchalot next November (2014)!!!

I was able to pick up some of Botanics early and I was really impressed with the selection of "low volume" prints in this line.  This is great for creating secondary patterns in quilts.  I decided to play around with the values in this line for the quilt I'm making.  It's a traditional courthouse steps quilt using 2" strips that I cut on the Accuquilt.

Botanics Quilt by Just a Bit Frayed - Carolyn Friedlander's Botanics at Pink Castle Fabrics

We now have Botanics for PRESALE at Pink Castle Fabrics!  This line will be shipped at the very end of November 2013.  I am giving away a bundle from Quilt Market this week to one lucky winner!  I have a Full Fat Quarter bundle for you!

Just leave a comment on this post for a chance to win this bundle (open to International as well).  Make sure to follow our blog and sign up for our mailing list! AND make sure to head over to Pink Castle Fabrics and preorder Botanics!!!

I will choose a winner this Friday, November 8th!  If you didn't see the newsletter, this week take 20% off your order with code MARKET20 !
