The block I used is a traditional one called Antique Tile, although I switched it up a bit. I like this block (and I've made one quilt in it already, and have another planned) because it's simple to construct, but looks fantastic. I based mine off the tutorial from Quilter's Cache, but there are others out there.
On the left is the traditional block - on the right is my version. I divided the prints into two groups - 10 focus fabrics, and 6 to form the secondary pluses. The white fabric in the cartoon is where I used those solids.
Though, after cutting, there were leftovers from the first group, and I needed extra from the second. You may notice, if you look closely, that the partial pluses around the edges are sometimes made from the fabrics I chose to be focus fabrics, due to that shortage. I would suggest using a half yard bundle if you want to be strict about color placement! (Or if you want it larger...)
Made from 30 12" blocks, it's 5x6 feet.
Once it was cut, I laid it out on my design wall. And then the floor, because it was too big for my small wall.
Then I pieced it block by block, starting on the pieces on the floor. I labeled them with a letter and number, so that I would know what row and column they belonged (and which way was up!) to once they were trimmed and ready to put together again.
Easy! And having beautiful fabric to work with makes it go all the faster, right?
Now it's off to the longarm quilter for her to work her magic on it!
