We’ve been hearing the hype surrounding Cotton + Steel for months and we're sure you have too. The new designer collaboration finally premiered their debut collection at spring Quilt Market in Pittsburgh with retail release set for July. Presale for bundles are available here.
So what is Cotton + Steel? This new project is made up of five established designers, pattern makers, and bloggers with the help of RJR Fabrics. Melody Miller, Rashida Coleman-Hale, Kimberly Kight, Sarah Watts, and Alexia Marcelle Abegg have each designed individual collections within a common color palette and with one collection of basics that play well with all the feature prints. So what exactly are we getting with this first release? Let's take a closer look.
First, we can start with the basics. The basics line is a selection of blenders that can be paired with any individual designer's collection that utilize three simple prints in 34 colors with a selection of nine metallic prints.
Melody Miller's collection "Mustang" features a few favorite prints from her past collections, some resized, as well as border prints, metallics, and prints on an unbleached cotton/linen blend.
Alexia Abegg's "Hatbox" was inspired by vintage fashion and midcentury style. Many of her prints have a hand drawn and retro feel with sketch and watercolor florals, a penned text print, and mod tartan inspired geometric print.
"Moonlit" by Rashida Coleman-Hale has a modern, Japanese inspired flair. Clean geometrics, matchsticks, and butterflies round out this collection inspired by picnics on warm summer nights.
Kim Kight's "Homebody" collection pulls more vintage and even reproduction prints. Stamp, button, and thumbtack prints give this collection a cozy, quirky feel.
"August", designed by Sarah Watts, showcases the designer's pen and ink illustrations and storytelling. Lions and gazelles drawn with great detail are complimented by graphic florals and soft rain drops.
With 102 prints in its entirety, this collection is pretty all-encompassing. Small and large prints, organic and geometric, and colors across the board make this line accessible and useable for all tastes.

Beginning this August, we'll be offering a unique remix of 12 prints each month from all of the Cotton + Steel collections, comprised mostly of feature prints but with a few basics thrown in. By combining prints from all the different lines and adding basics, we'll help you reimagine the possibilities of combinations with these gorgeous prints.
